In the series 'Ray Donovan', it's true that character Mickey Donovan does on one occasion tell a few totally inappropriate jokes.

But it's important to realize, Mickey does inappropriate things in general, believing himself to be more "normal" than he really is. An Indian in one episode comments that Mickey is a "crooked tree", which means that anything he does turns out wrong.

There's brutality and illegal behavior all through the series but that's not actually the point of the show. Rather, it's a study in how people as adults deal with or 'act out' according to things that may have happened to them during childhood.

Ray's brother "Bunchy" is the one most obviously affected by having been molested by a priest when younger. He is clearly "damaged goods" - but he knows it, and is not trying to get away with anything; instead, he's actively searching for healing and normalcy, but (understandably) doesn't know where to find it. (Who would?)

It's not evident at the start but is gradually revealed, that Ray was also molested by the same priest.

There's nothing about the related story lines that "make light" of any of that.
