How many people in general are addicted to drugs? I will say too many, maybe a majority. How many people do we know personally that are on antidepressants for example? When addressing mental illness which, by the way, I refer to as emotional illness, you have to get to the source and too often, this is not done. Drugs seem to be the answer. And these drugs are addicting. If the person does recover, then getting off the drugs is another whole story.

Now, I'm not saying that these drugs don't have their place. There are instances where the emotional condition is so severe that the person cannot function and these drugs may be necessary............ Temporarily. Emphasis on the word Temporarily. Now, the blurb you posted from SAMHSA states that the administration of these drugs should be accompanied with therapy. The thing is that too often doctors just administer these drugs without therapy and this is basically useless. They should be a tool, not a means to an end, because that does not work. You have to get to the bottom line, the source. How many people have been on these drugs for years and years and still suffer from anxiety and depression? And too often, the doctor's answer is to simply give them more drugs which could turn out to be a deadly cocktail. This is not the answer.

Lastly, as with any other condition, the person has to do all they can to resolve their own issues and move toward healing. Support from family and friends is imperative.

My advice would be to find a holistic therapist that would treat the condition naturally with the proper therapist. But, unfortunately, these are not always easy to find and the cost is not affordable. And all this takes time............ Healing is a journey. There is no magic pill. Medicating yourself whether using natural or prescription means does not work. The person needs help and this help should be sought. If a person is suffering from serious depression, anxiety, or other conditions, they cannot do it by themselves. It's gone too far.

Emotional disorders can be very serious but healing is very possible with the proper tools and emotional work.
