You might want to look at Princeton and the Paper Clip Operation and begin there for the search of the concept of block chain technology.
Identify the Germans that brought the concept.
Then the development of the hardware to handle the data.

Then the software to manage the data.
Then the gift of the internet systems operations to the general public.
Then the spread of the systems.
Who paid or funded what and who is the key.
IBM is not a source I would assign much integrity too. How much of their history and all of their products are trackable back to the same industrial complex managed by DARPA? Bell labs would be another one to look at as would Motorola.
The key is the contracts, their intent, their compartmentalizations, then the dead spot til something explodes in the commerce world.
In about 2012 I came across a research piece by a small group of dissidents from the secret squirrel world that were contract organizer specialist managing a lot of DARPA stuff that convinced me 80+% of the history of development.
They admitted they had a few holes in their work and would fill it out as they could.
I never followed up.

What happens to the value of crypto when the money it was purchased with no longer exists? Or, is recognized as being fraudulent from the beginning?
How close is that to happening now?

Currently, crypto is under attack because the concept of it being a mirror container for our labor represented in money is an escape mechanism from the owners of the private money system and their records.

The plan for public money for private use and an equity claim on the American peoples labor stored in USD as the basis of value for all central banks was delivered to the powers that own that whole system in 2012. SLAVERY CLAIM in equity with demand for audit by creditors.

Soon the title to the labor will be exposed with the mechanisms of how to. Ownership trumps all possession claims.

Go to the way back machine and track the incremental very quiet changes in the whole bank structure operating through central banks and you’ll find some fingerprints there that are very strange.
