When it entered the Italian waters it was intercepted by the Italian navy who took control of the vessel. Otherwise, the boat would have landed on to apulia coast (part of Italian shore in Adriatic).

ROME - Moldovan cargo ship Blue Sky M, of which on Tuesday for a few hours it was thought that it was took over by hijackers landed at night on Wednesday in the Italian port of Gallipoli, agencies report.

On board are hundreds of immigrants, perhaps up to 900, and by the Italian media, supposedly, they are the Kurdish and Syrian refugees.

From the ship on Tuesday afternoon come, when it was located near the Greek island of Corfu, an invitation for help with the claim that on the deck are armed men. As it was suspected that the ship is hijacked, Greeks immediately sent a frigate, coast guard ship and a military helicopter.

The Greek authorities have established that the ship was not in danger or that is a mechanical malfunction. Officially registered ship's destination was Rijeka (Croatia), and it sailed off from Turkey. However, Blue Sky M crew, according to the BBC, at some point, left the ship, and then on it went on autopilot towards Italy. When it entered the Italian waters it was intercepted by the Italian navy which took control of the vessel. Otherwise, the ship would come ashore on Apulia coast in Italy.

What drama was exactly going on on board of Moldovan ship is not yet known. One hypothesis, according to AFP, is that the smugglers or pirates left the ship when they realized it was approached by the Greek navy, but there is no official confirmation of this.

Smugglers people often leave ships somewhere at sea to avoid arrest, adds BBC.

The ship was in the port of Gallipoli welcomed by ambulances and staff of the Red Cross. Witnesses say that hundreds of people disembarked from the vessel.

Blue Sky M has got into trouble in the same area in the Ionian Sea which took place the dramatic rescue of passengers from the burning of the Italian ferry Norman Atlantic a day ago.
