Your points are well founded. But there is a bigger threat. While a meltdown is a possible threat, I have a worse one.

The U.S. Electric Grid is monitored and supplied thru 7 large multi-tarawatt auto-transformers. The smallest of these is in Washington State, and runs at 95% capacity, presently. In addition, this auto-tansformer is also the stability choke for the entire grid.

This transformer is a basic weak spot in the grid, and if it fails, will take the entiregrid down, and it won't be reparable. This is because the one company that could make thse items in teh U.S. Is Westinghouse, and they don't makethem anymore. The only company that presently. Makes these is in Germany, and the manufacturing delay is 4-years.

While I would agree that a group of meltdowns is scary, the death and destruction resulting from no electricity at all, anywhere, is much worse.

, just another practical fear, one terrorist away from a nullifying total blackout. If this gets coupled with a digital 'firesale', the whole country will be bashed beyond repair in hours.

Nulcear threats are never as great as the really scary stuff.
