TOTALITARIANISM

The strict interpretation of "totalitarian" relates to a state or government which disallows any form of opposition. However, using the concept of perception as a guide, we will explore this social phenomenon to determine whether it exists in the post-modern democracies.
The concept of opposition political parties relates to the formation of opposing views, open debate and an uncorrupted system in which virtue abounds. As we dig into the factual evidence of the modern political machine, we see something different, something which, on the surface, appears to serve the mores - however shot through with malice.
When both political parties merge their ideals through the imperative of power and corruption, the free workings of a party-dominated political system is doomed. Left and right meet in the middle and the result must always be corruption of the system. So what, then, is the real underlying problem with this system? Has it led to "totalitarian" government?
The true answer is "YES." Yes, due to the breakdown of the concept of free and unbridled elections - based on opposing points of view. And based on virtue, whereby the rights of the people, as opposed to the demands of the vested interests of the power-elite, come first.
Think back on the political debate between the two political parties of any so-called modern democracy. In most cases, the only difference between the opposing rhetoric is the color of each candidate's tie.
With the loss of virtue in the societies of our modern civilization went true democracy. Here are my ideals and comments on democracy:
THE EVOLUTION OF REPRESENTATIVE GOVERNMENT
Democracy, while an ideal, is a product of civilization, not of evolution. Go slowly! select carefully! for the dangers of democracy are:
1. Glorification of mediocrity.
2. Choice of base and ignorant rulers.
3. Failure to recognize the basic facts of social evolution.
4. Danger of universal suffrage in the hands of uneducated and indolent majorities.
5. Slavery to public opinion; the majority is not always right.
INTELLIGENT AND TRAINED REPRESENTATION
The survival of democracy is dependent on successful representative government; and
that is conditioned upon the practice of electing to public offices only those individuals who are technically trained, intellectually competent, socially loyal, and morally fit. Only by such provisions can government of the people, by the people, and for the people be preserved. Virtue is the hallmark of successful representative government - what do you see?
In the past civilizations and the scaffolding thereof, the insignia of priestly and kingly office were eventually regarded as fetishes, and the fetish of the state supreme has passed through many stages of development, from clans to tribes, from suzerainty to sovereignty, from totems to flags. Fetish kings have ruled by "divine right," and many other forms of government have obtained. Men have also made a fetish of democracy, the exaltation and adoration of the common man's ideas when collectively called "public opinion." One man's opinion, when taken by itself, is not regarded as worth much, but when many men are collectively functioning as a democracy, this same mediocre judgment is held to be the arbiter of justice and the standard of righteousness.
Opinion polls similarly drive policies. Political leaders of so-called democracies decide on what is to be policy based on the polls of the mediocre. The media has much to answer for in this regard, as each dawning day the mores are bombarded with the mediocre opinions of minority groups, many of a vicious nature.
The spread of immorality during the '60s and 70's - and now for all mortals - was far too advanced for the population. Only the rich and powerful were promised a happy life; therefore did they so carefully worship and preserve their ideas in banks against the day of judgment. Many mortals today worship the bank and its money. Through secularism and the post-modern secular humanism, they have turned away from the worship of God. The democracy of salvation and resurrection, based as it is on the teachings of Jesus, eventually failed, even to the extent that some of the Christians later believed in the survival of dumb animals. The so-called "new age" of religious fervor reverted back to the discarded beliefs in reincarnation and many other mystery cults.
The problem that occurs from a generation of liberty with license, "free everything," is that those youths eventually grow up, put on a suit, get a haircut and go on to become the next generation of leaders. Sound familiar?
So what is the solution?
Global government based on a TRUE democracy.
Under global government, the national groups will be afforded a real opportunity to realize and enjoy the personal liberties of genuine democracy. The fallacy of self-determination will be ended. With global regulation of money and trade will come the new era of world-wide peace. Soon may a global language evolve, and there will be at least some hope of sometime having a global religion - or religions with a global viewpoint.
Collective security will never afford peace until the collectivity includes all mankind in a true democracy.
The political sovereignty of representative mankind government will bring lasting peace on earth, and the spiritual brotherhood of man will forever insure good will among all men. And there is no other way whereby peace on earth and good will among men can be realized.
But leaders are making a great mistake when they try to call modern man to spiritual battle with the trumpet blasts of the Middle Ages. Politics and religion must provide itself with new and up-to-date slogans. Neither democracy nor any other political panacea will take the place of spiritual progress. False religions may represent an evasion of reality, but Jesus in his gospel introduced mortal man to the very entrance upon an eternal reality of spiritual progression.
These are the precise words said to the assembled male and female apostolic corps on the morning of the Master's ascension from the slopes of Mount Olivet on the morning of Thursday, May 18 A.D. 30.
" I bade you tarry in Jerusalem until you were endowed with power from on high. I am now about to take leave of you; I am about to ascend to my Father, and soon, very soon, will we send into this world of my sojourn the Spirit of Truth; and when he has come, you shall begin the new proclamation of the gospel of the kingdom, first in Jerusalem and then to the uttermost parts of the world. Love men with the love wherewith I have loved you and serve your fellow mortals even as I have served you. By the spirit fruits of your lives impel souls to believe the truth that man is son of God, and that all men are my brethren. Remember all I have taught you and the life I have lived among you. My love overshadows you, my spirit will dwell with you, and my peace shall abide upon you. Farewell.
When the Morontia Master had thus spoken, he vanished from their sight."
Totalitarian government has resulted because men and women of recent generations have either not heard this saving message or, through ignorance, have chosen to ignore it. Virtue was and is the common bond that binds each of us to the ideal that we are brethren. Not as the totalitarian governments and their leaders would have us believe, unvirtuous and therefore individually desolate and enslaved. Jesus lived by principles, ethics, morals and values. He is the way, the light and the truth for every mortal soul on earth, today tomorrow and forever.
For it is written, the kingdom of God is at hand.
