Consider that as of late October neither major candidate elicited more than a yawn from most Americans. Look around now at the demonstrations and you see how polarized we've become, and how quickly it happened.

Somebody realized the candidates themselves were too blah to stir up passion among the public, so they turned the election itself into the issue. It's working.

The woman you quote ranting about yellow CIA trucks is an example of why. She seems to imagine that corruption is an invention of Pappy Bush and the Republicans. And that there are no NUWOs in the Democratic party.

I've read more disinfo in the news and on sites like the "countercoup" one than I thought it was possible to churn out in three weeks. Wednesday the NY Times ran a piece of jumbled statistics by two staff writers that proved nothing, but intimated that the Fla. vote count was racially biased! I'm serious. They began with one fact: a "disproportionate" number of ballots in Miami-Dade's black precincts were disqualified. Here's part of my letter to the local paper that ran the Times story:

This story's cleverest aspect is its unassailability: nobody will suggest these black voters had trouble following written instructions on their ballots. It's politically incorrect. Nobody will hear you blame the Democratic county governments for deliberately perpetuating undereducation, perhaps illiteracy, in a minority voting bloc so it can be more easily manipulated.
Similarly, you could accuse Democrat-run counties like Miami-Dade and Palm Beach of perpetuating punch-card balloting because it's so easy to finagle when finagling is necessary. But the Media isn't interested. (end quote)

Of course not. The Media is part of the problem.
