Very few public figures would have been involved in authorising the assassination of Diana - and just a handful of top officials. Clinton, Blair, Chirac, certainly; and the directors of their intelligence services.

Clinton and Chirac have both come under fire, recently: Clinton (in the Lewinsky affair) because, among other things, his Middle-East "land for peace" policy is anathema to Israeli-loyalist Jews; and Chirac (over corruption while Mayor of Paris) for reasons probably connected with the same controversy.

Chirac will be charged with diverting municipal funds to the Gaullist Party, if he loses the Presidency (and its accompanying immunity from prosecution) in the next few weeks.

One clue to the reasons for the emergence of the Chirac-scandal may lie in the emergence of a much larger scandal surrounding the recently- resigned finance-minister, of the opposing Socialist Party (PSF), Dominique Strauss-Kahn, whose connections with Elf Aquitaine International (EAI) slush funds (during the very dodgy Thompson Defence Industries' deal, in 1994, in which EAI played an important mediatory role, to sell a number of warships to Taiwan, are gradually coming to light, and spreading to other "new left" politicians such as Edith Cresson.

I say this because the other crops of scandals, in Germany and Israel, are characterised by the same tit-for-tat quality: there are, in each case, major scandals implicating large numbers of opposition politicians in institutional corruption, followed by minor scandals implicating individual, ruling politicians in personal corruption. The latter, it seems to me, are retaliatory measures by the victims of the former.

All these scandals are linked - the Israeli ones to French financiers, notably Seroussi, the French ones to EAI and the German ones to Francois Mitterand and EAI. What's more, the process seems to have begun in Israel, with exposes of Netanyahu, Deri and Weizmann (who are resisting "land for peace" deals) and to have spread out from there. It was Raymond Levy, Jewish vice-President of EAI, for example, who let the cat out of the bag, in France, by revealing that his company had paid Strauss-Kahn's secretary, Evelyne Duval, FF 16 000 per month, during 1993 and 1994, for no apparent reason.

Thus, I suspect, the Clinton/Barak "land for peace" party, having done a deal with Syria over the Golan (to get the Russians out of Syrian ports) and being faced with opposition to this, from the Israeli public - led by the Zionist Right - targeted the Zionist Right's most recent heroes, Netanyahu and Deri, and its grand old man, Weizmann, with a view to eroding their influence.

The Zionists struck back, in Israel, with allegations of electoral malpractice by the Barak coalition; in France, with allegations of corruption in the Socialist-controlled Finance Ministry and, in Germany (where the names of Jewish financiers also figure prominently on the fringes of the allegations) with cataclysmic revelations about the black-finances of the CDU. Along the way, at least two people were killed: i.e. Edmond Safra, the Jewish millionaire, and Wolfgang Huellen, treasurer of the CDU.

Then the EU (Bilderberg) element (allied with the "land for peace" party) struck again, but only in an attempt to level the European playing-field, mounting exposes of other EU (Bilderberg) politicians in the ruling, German SPD, and, in France, of Jacques Chirac.

Clinton's battle over the Lewinsky affair was part of an earlier campaign in this secret war - secret, that is, insofar as the public are not being told why it is being fought.

The assassination of Diana (a) to discredit the British monarchy and (b) to remove an unpredictable media-icon, was part of the US-driven, Bilderberg, EU-project (comparable with the Middle-East "land for peace" process, but at a much more advanced stage) If the Royal Family CAN somehow be linked to the Alma Tunnel, then exposing the cover-up (as I have no doubt the Israelis are capable of doing) would only allow the operation to succeed almost as well as it is succeeding in its current, covert form - i.e. media-blackout, punctuated by reminders of Mossad and CIA omniscience (Gordon Thomas' "Gideon's Spies" and the LeWinter affair) and accusations, from the immunity of the witness-box, by Mohammed Alfayed - which exerts pressure, and ensures compliance, without creating dangerous instability. -- Steve Reed
